Weld-Ed Rolls Out Mobile Welder Training Center

Manufacturers benefit from on-site, on-demand workforce development training.

ELYRIA, OHIO (September 15, 2015) — The National Center for Welding Education and Training (Weld-Ed), in partnership with Lorain County Community College, has rolled out its “Mobile Welder Training Center,” a 48-foot self-contained trailer equipped with eight state-of-the-art welding stations that will offer on-site customized training to manufacturers, fabricating operations and metalworking companies throughout northern Ohio.

Weld-Ed’s mobile training center brings one-on-one specialized training on-site to _72A4318businesses interested in boosting welder proficiency, enhancing problem-solving skills and improving overall on-the-job work quality — without the costly expenses traditionally associated with off-site training.

“The training center will be particularly attractive to businesses utilizing a welding component in their manufacturing process that want to keep their professionals up-to-date with the latest in techniques, materials, processes, equipment and best practices,” said Duncan Estep, Weld-Ed Center Director. “The mobile component will enable us to take our MIG, precision TIG, stick welding, pipe welding, orbital TIG training — and a host of other training — on the road to provide customized training support where and when the company requires it.”

Estep added that instructors will be able to adjust their curriculum to meet the precise needs of the company in training, ensuring that each course satisfies AWS, API, ASME or any other industry-specific welding standards.

Weld-Ed’s mobile training unit expands upon the center’s existing corporate training facility located in the Nord Advanced Technology Center at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio. The facility includes a 12-station, state-of-the-art training lab, classrooms, administrative offices and exceptional instruction, and utilizes modern technology in the materials joining field, made possible through partnerships with industry-leading welding equipment and supply manufacturers.

The mobile training center was made possible through a grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education (formerly the Ohio Board of Regents), with assistance from Ohio Senator Gayle Manning (D-13).
